Legend, Myth And Secret Of The Holy Grail

By Raymond Morris

Sacred cups and chalices have a number of different uses. In one case, the secret of the holy grail refers to a sacred chalice which has often been believed to have caught the blood of Jesus as he died on the cross. While this is the case, this is only one legend related to the chalice which many have searched for since the time of the crucifixion.

While the most common legend is the one related to Christ, there are also other myths and tales about the object. For example, there are tales tied to Hitler, Atlantis, Germany and the so-called supreme race as to it being a secret Nazi symbol. Obviously, the powers that be have well hid these facts and others over the course of time.

New and different legends are now forming based on relics and research which have recently been discovered. Scientists, theologians and authors all agree that the grail could actually be something other than a chalice. While some believe it to be the cup which held the blood of Jesus, others believe it to be an ancient document or scroll.

Whether a cup with the DNA of Christ, or an ancient document, the object has yet to be found. As such, it appears that at least for the time being, it will remain a legend and mystery in the future. While this is the case, it is interesting to note the different interpretations so many have had with regards to the holy object.

When it comes to the this holy cup, it has become an artifact which has been used in many books and movies. In fact, the purest history dates back to King Arthur. For, the Knights of the Round Table often sat around a table which was round with a empty circle in the middle for a chalice.

A number of modern paintings reflect the last supper where Jesus and the disciples are seen sitting at a long rectangular table. In reality, it is more likely that Jesus, as King Arthur sat at a round table with an opening in the center for the grail as the leader of the 12 disciples. As such, it appears that during the time of King Arthur and Jesus, round tables were a meeting place for leaders of men and those whom followed them.

With regards to the stories of King Arthur, one of the most unusual analogies to the chalice relates to a princess. For, some of the knights loved to joke about by having a princess with a cloth of green asked the knights if one could see the holy grail. At which time, the culprits would break out in laughter and explain that since the princess was the daughter of the Fisher King and a Holy Hermit, by seeing the princess, one in fact had seen the sacred object.

In this legend, the grail needs protecting so the knights are there to protect the princess. Whereas, Eunuchs, often high priests, whom have been castrated are considered the most virginal and pure of all the knights. For example, Matthew 19: 11/12, Jesus can be seen asking whom of the disciples would be willing to become a Eunuch and holder of the holy grail, be that a cup, document or princess.
