Examples Of New Classic Books You May Consider This Season

Many people read books as their source of entertainment. Some work by great authors has however stood the test of time and found itself in the list of new classic books because of their topics and setting that transcend all cultures, human experiences as well as seasons. Such have plots, characters, conflict and emotional connection that is superior compared to other reads. Some may have been written decades ago, but they still grace modern bookshops and home libraries.

Take some time to discover the following examples of classics, keeping in mind that, even old classics are still considered new because of their timeless qualities. For adults, a range of classic books clamor for attention. Here are some of the choices out there; this is by no means an exhaustive list.

A great one is the novel, The Poisonwood Bible, written by Barbara Kingslover. Its setting is in Belgian Congo in the year 1959. In this piece, Nathan Price is on a mission to snatch uncivilized souls in this country, Congo, from eternal fire. Accompanied by his four young daughters and wife, his efforts are frustrated as the country witness tragic political fallout with Belgium. The fiery Baptism missionary and family is trapped in this bloody fallout.

Other celebrated classics are collections of short stories by Lorrie Moore, Alice Munro and Jhumpa Lahiri. These authors have put together the Birds of America, Selected stories and Interpreter of Maladies respectively. These are among the best classics one can talk about today.

Another great read is Life of Pi, written by Yann Martel. In this piece, sixteen-year-old Pi Patel boards a Japanese cargo ship to start a new life with his family in North America. Leaving India, his father is a zoo-keeper and comes aboard with the animals. Pi comes out as widely knowledgeable about animal behavior and with insatiable appetite for stories. Incidentally, tragedy occurs and the ship sinks and Pi finds himself in life-saving boat with wild animals only as fellow passengers. These include an injured zebra, a hyena, Bengal tiger by the name Parker who weighs 450 pounds and an orangutan.

Pi alone escapes death from the claws of Parker in the lifeboat, relying on his knowledge of tiger behavior. He and the tiger co-exist at sea for nearly 230 days. Upon reaching the coast of Mexico, Parker disappears into the jungle for good. When Japanese authorities question Pi about his miraculous survival, they refuse to believe his account. After hours of interrogation, Pi finally makes up a totally different and more believable story. Whether or not it is the real true story is up to the reader to discover.

Young adults have plenty of choices available for them too. From the long-time classics like The Chronicles of Narnia, The Giver and The Diary of Anne Frank to recent pieces like The Book Thief and Harry Potter Series, any person out in search of a good book will not lack one.

With so many classics to explore, readers young and old will never run out of entertaining reads. All you need is to visit your nearest bookstore and find out what they have. Such good reads are also available online, both in hard and soft copy.
