Top Ten Lists - Ten Ways To Give Your Ad Copy Some Firepower

By Beth Willis

You want your ad copy to have that magical spark in it, don't you? Well, we're never out of ideas - consider these ten tips if you want to bring back that rah-rah firepower to your ad copy!

Hand Written Letter. With nothing but a pen and paper, write your ad on paper, scan it, remove the noise from the photo with a photo editing tool, then upload the ad to your website. A lot of people, ourselves included, are traditionalists by nature, and we believe this could help you boost your sales.

Testimonials and/or Name-Dropping of Well-Known Customers. Listing famous or respected customers who have purchased from you on your ad copy spark interest and trust. Others will think that if these people bought from you then they should also trust your business and purchase your products. But of course, you would not want to randomly put your famous customers' names on your ads unless you have no problem with being sued for unauthorized use of their name, image and/or likeness.

Show Photos of Before and After. First, illustrate the problem through a photograph. Besides this show the picture which show how your product solves the problem.

A Review. By including a quick review about your product, your business or maybe about yourself in general, this fosters respect from your buying customers. As you will find out, more credibility means more sales.

Show a Freebie's Value. It would be a good idea not only to offer a free complimentary bonus in your ad copy, but to place its dollar value in your ad copy.

Enlist an Endorser. Hire somebody famous to help you in endorsing your product to the public. Make sure the person is well known to your target audience. Your endorser's picture and testimonial or endorsement should be featured prominently in your ad copy.

Your Picture in Your Ad Copy. Showing people that you are not hiding behind your ad copy will increase their trust. Aside from a photograph, you'll also want to include your company phone number and address, and a product-specific quote that can be attributed to you.

Donate Some Earnings to a Cause. Let people know on your ad copy that by buying your product, a certain percentage of the purchase price they pay would go to a charity of your choice. It doesn't matter what the charity is, though - this shows that you have a heart. They may just buy your product to donate to that charity.

Ask Close-Ended Questions. These would be questions that can be answered by yes or no - include them en masse in your ad copy. The questions should remind them of their problem, show how your product solves their problem and make them think what will happen if they don't purchase your product.

Offer a Prize. Offer a free prize to your buying customers and do so in contest format - a couple examples would be spotting backwards spelled or misspelled words in your ad copy, or trying to spot all the differences between two photos or illustrations. The longer you can keep someone reading your copy the greater chance of them purchasing.
