Thriller Novels Are Good Films And Fantastic Books

By Stephen Lee

Today's hectic lifestyle leaves little time to relax with a book. Intent and television have replaced the humble printed word and video games are more likely than a book. People are still writing and there is plenty to be found on the internet. Thriller novels are great favorites and often get made into films.

A lot of the top write of the genre get their books adapted into films. The tension and intrigue coupled with heroes and heroines lend themselves to the movie format. Good producers who work with authors often make very good films which are excellent entertainment but the book is often more enthralling than the movie.

A book allows the reader to form their own image of the characters and scenes. The author can use description and language to conjure up the stunning landscapes or gory details of a crime scene. The reader's mind can imagine everything whereas on screen this task is done by the director or special effects team and the imagination is made redundant.

The heroines and heroes of these novels who discover plots for world domination or catch serial killers can become like one of the family. Many feature in a whole series of books and their character is revealed to the reader so you know how they are likely to react in any situation. Their looks are burned into the brain with phrases like buzz cut hair or tangled sun bleached locks.

It can be disappointing to an avid reader when the character they know to be six feet tall and blonde is played by a short actor with dark hair. The casting director might know that actor will draw a crowd, but it leaves the reader wondering why they did not stay true to the books. There are few cases where changing the character or plot makes the film better than the book.

Sometimes however, seeing a movie and enjoying it can lead people back to the original novel. From there they might read the whole series or branch out to other authors. If a movie can bring more people to the world of books then this must be a good thing. Reading broadens the mind and improves literacy, comprehension and spelling.

Most books are now available through online booksellers in both hardcopy and for e-readers. Many sites offer a synopsis of the plot and reviews from other readers. For those purchasing s e-book you might even be able to download the first chapter as a preview. You will also be recommended other material you might like.

If you prefer gadgets to paper, then there is a wealth of apps for all electronic devices to download and read books. Some sites allow free downloads of the first few chapters or the whole novel in the case of new authors. Nearly all the classic books have also been republished as e-books and as they are no longer copyrighted they are normally free. The thriller genre has been around for centuries and these classics are still a really good read.
