How To Select A Great Photography Book Printing

By Janis Hickman

Over the last few years, there has been a surge of people who enjoy taking pictures. With the onset of camera phones, tablets, and social networking sites, people of all ages have reconnected with the power of digital images. While some would say this advancement in technology has decreased the desire for hard copies, in fact a new niche market has opened in the the area of photography book printing.

When thinking about this concept, there are two basic methods: creating the design from a personal computer and printer, or looking for professional services. Both will provide a good base line product. Both allow the photographer to control the design. Where they differ is with some of the custom features.

Choosing to publish pictures from a personal computer usually requires the purchase of some equipment. Unless specifically ordered as such, most home computers do not come with publishing software installed. With the wide array of options available on the consumer market, some research will need to be completed in order to make an informed decision.

Also from the personal computing perspective, the actual printer used to publish the images should be of high resolution. The higher the resolution, usually the heftier the price. The paper also makes a difference in the overall quality of the images. Using high gloss or a photo matte finish will ensure that the colors are crisp, clear, and vibrant.

If a home system is not desired, then finding an experienced professional business becomes key. There are two basic categories for professional products: traditional stores and online businesses. Any professional service can provide a decent range of options. Good paper quality, standard textures and colors are easy to find. If a custom look is more important, finding a business that produces custom designs is the next step.

On top of the paper selection, the cover has possibilities too. Most covers are simply a stronger card stock paper. This is fine if the pictures will be sitting on a shelf. But, there are certainly higher cost choices to be had. Creating a unique cover from leather, suede, or crocodile skin gives a look that will not be forgotten. These covers can also be engraved or embossed for added flair.

The final selections come down to the end pages and spine. When binding pages together, most businesses will use a heavy duty glue. While effective, it is not the most attractive. To cover the binding, a decorative spine is used. Spines can be as simple or detailed as desired. For a high quality engraved spine, a plush material such as leather with work. End pages can also be decorated with calligraphy or foil edges for a personalized look.

With the ease of snapping pictures, there is no reason to leave them sitting on a digital camera or stored on a desktop computer. Why simply upload to social networking sites when it is so easy to make a creative gift. Photography book printing is so simple and easy it can be done from your own home. So when struggling to find that perfect gift for someone who has everything, give the gift of memories.
