Review Of A Book On Domestic Violence

By Cathy Mercer

The theme of a book on domestic violence, just as the name suggests, is centered on marriages which have aspects of wife, husband or children abuse. The main one has been that of men beating their wives and children but of late, men beating have emerged from nowhere. Kids end up being caught in either of these two. The only rare case is that of kids beating their parents.

Redress in these modern times seems to be working through such means of writing. Although quite a substantial time is needed, the benefits are beginning to manifest. It is the simplest action one can take on the matter. The writer of this manuscript normally has strong linkage to these acts especially one who is a survivor; can be either of the spouses or the children.

Another group of authors is that of witnesses of this act. These can be neighbors or activists who came to rescue the affected person from the wrath of the other. Children here can also be witnesses to such crimes in society. With such a position, the author has an ability and advantage of producing a piece of writing that will touch the hearts of many and advocate fully for the cry of the oppressed.

The biggest question on the minds of many is to why they come up with such manuscripts. Some of them are their voices and it is through such means where conviction for this acts will be made and aired out. This is all about raising awareness for a stop to these acts since they are the highest order of inhumanity to subject someone to.

Reason number two can be based on sharing the experience he or she underwent through at certain period of time. This is evident for those who write basing on real life situations. With this, the reader is able to formulate the picture as to how things happened and truly be touched by the whole storyline.

Another reason could be offering viable solutions to those who are in power and have a responsibility of taking action against such tribulations. With mere expression of words, such a manuscript can be a platform for debate where people will discuss the matter in depth and formulate solutions which the government and other concerned non governmental organizations may be in a position to use in terminating them.

With this power in their hand, especially if the author is an activist, the need to petition relevant authorities and non governmental organizations in taking up the matter seriously and dealing severely with the perpetrators is brought out in such a publication. This is usually in those areas where this act still exists due to some old beliefs which have been passed with time.

With these happenings still in play, writing a book on domestic violence removes any justification whatsoever those perpetrators have to torture their partners and kids included. This means of advocacy thus helps to empower each one of these groups to stand firm and reject these inhuman acts against them.
