There are basic rules that one should take note to meet such expectations. The following are seven rules of writing historical fiction novels to think through.

Conduct your research thoroughly. You need to get accurate information about a particular historical event about a specific place or person before starting the writing process. Most experts advise against the internet, but it can be a reliable source of information if one does detailed research. The best sources to consider are historic books written about the events or people that you intend to include in your context.

Immerse yourself to the particular culture during your setting. Your thoughts and feelings must immerse in the culture of your target setting. Making such a decision provides an accurate understanding of every aspect in your setup. Look for fine details, words and everyday activities during the target duration that one can use to describe something about the period.

Choose your characters well. Your characters form the basis of a novel. Therefore, you must be very careful with every decision you make about them. Consider having characters enough for your explanation and can fit your context. Look for names that match the time frame and related to the characteristics that you assign them to as well. Do not choose a lot of protagonists if you intend to do this for the first time.

Balance your details and drama. Mixing details and drama can slow down a reader. A good set of details must evoke the time and place of the setting without slowing down the reader. Even so, the reader should know the duration that a particular event occurred to relate the context with the description or dialogue in the book. Avoid using historic facts as your story line since they do not fulfill the expectations of a reader but provides a framework of the story.

Ensure that you have enough time. Time is a crucial aspect to the success of your book. You need time to go through every essential element related to your story line and come up with a detailed overview of the outline that your book will use. List down all your character and determine how your story will flow before writing. Making such considerations simplifies the whole process.

Depend on a professional editor. Editors are necessary for improving your content before you publish the novel. The editors should focus on grammatical errors, punctuation and visual appearance of your book. Take your time evaluating the editor to determine whether one is suitable enough. A good editor must have a good reputation and should have positive reviews both online and through word of mouth. Consider someone who you can easily access to avoid spending a lot of time in this process. Use at least two editors if you want to the process turn out well.

Essential aspects to avoid. A competent historic fictional writer must avoid some things to write a book accordingly. One should prevent a lot of backdrops since they might confuse the writer, avoid the first person and cramming a lot of information.
