By Traci Witt

When the times comes to tell a good old campfire tale or a slumber party urban legend, nothing really beats captivating your peers with some good old fashioned scary horror stories. Not only do these add a little excitement to your activity but they provide a fun little scare and insight on how legends often get retold. There are lots of these kinds of stories that involve ghost which by far are the most common of these types.

The truth of the matter is that, everyone loves a good ghost story and there are a lot of them to tell at a sleepover or a campfire. There are many legends such as the Amityville Horror, the vengeful stories of Bloody Mary and Bell Witch, and the tragic tales of David Gregory and Carmen Winstead.

The first tale you can bring up is the Amityville Horror, which has a very defined cult following, spanning books and films alike. The story itself involves a crazy madman nicknamed Butch that murdered his parents and then killed his siblings. Since then, there have been reports of hauntings that occur frequently in the house. There have been a number of strange things that have occurred like locked doors and windows becoming mysteriously unlocked.

Another story you can try your hand at is the story of Bloody Mary and it is a terrifying tale indeed that involves a ghost that appears when a person says her name three times in a darkened room in front of a mirror. It is said that Mary was a beautiful girl who got into a terrible accident that left her face horribly bloodied and disfigured.

The curse is supposed to be everlasting and the popularity of this story has spawned books and similar movies as well so slightly altering the events of the story wont hurt to spook your friends.

The next two bits of urban legends involve the tragic connections of David Gregory and Carmen Winstead. Both stories involved a chain letter broadcasting the death of 17 year old Carmen Winstead, who met her demise in a sewer followed by David Gregory who was killed in the very same exact way.

The death of Carmen involves a gang of girls who pushed her down a man hole causing her to break her neck. This sparked a chain-letter over the internet which was read by a young boy named David Gregory. The letter told him to re-post it but he did not follow the directions and soon enough he also met the same fate as the other girls.

The last of the scary horror stories is about the Bell Witch which all happened in 19th century in Tennessee. The spirit associated with this is of a deceased woman named Kate Batts, who believed she was cheated out of purchased land by a man seller. Before her death, she swore to get revenge on the man and all his descendants which would span in a reign of terror for over 200 hundred years.
