The Main Idea Behind Sustainable Digital Printing

By Andrea Rivas

The process of moving a document from any storage device or a personal computer to a print device by using a machine that accepts both graphic and text input is what is referred to as digital printing. Sustainable digital printing on the other hand is where any print task is done in an environment friendly way so as not to affect the surroundings negatively. Sustainability here is used to emphasize on the effective use of print materials so as not to emit harmful chemicals that might affect the environment.

A great number of firms have come up with new techniques to help them print in manner that does not affect the environment negatively. One such way is by recycling the waste produced and reusing them. The recycling of papers, canvas and other print materials remarkably reduces the cutting down of trees.

Use of chlorine in the manufacture of print materials particularly paper has been highly reduced. Materials with limited or no chlorine are used as they are friendly to the environment. Further, chlorine usage even in the recycling process is eliminated.

Dry toner ink is also largely used by many companies since it is environment friendly. This ink is easily removable from print materials making recycling a lot easier. Therefore, chemicals as well as other toxins that are harmful to the environment are eliminated from the recycle process.

Instead of using unsafe petroleum products, print firms have adopted the use of vegetable oils. These oils are easily biodegradable and do not have harmful effects to the environment. This is because they do not contain toxic substances.

Generally, sustainable digital printing normally makes use of the common inkjet printers, laser printers and multifunction peripherals. The only underlying issue is that the print technique is focused on removing toxic substances from the used materials. Recycling the used material is ideal for the conservation of the environment as fewer trees will be cut to obtain print materials.
