Getting Started with Copywriting - Tips for Beginners

By Tyrone Clink

Most people interested in copywriting have a general idea that it takes effort to learn. This is the main reason why so many quit, and there are others that don't even take that first step towards learning it. One thing necessary goes beyond patience because it can take so long to get anywhere in the field. Study the basics until you are blue in the face, and then practice them until the same thing happens.

If you are a rank beginner, and we bet you are, then pay strict attention to what follows.

The exact words you use in any type of sales copy are extremely significant. Try to think of words that are positively charged and that make people feel good. While staying relevant to your topic, try to include such positive words in your copy. Remember that your goal is to influence how readers feel about your product. The words to stay away from are ones that put people in an unpleasant emotional state. It's usually possible to take words that bring people down and replace them with more upbeat words. Create a balance in the words that you use in your copy for best results.

The reason you must do market research is so you can learn about your audience, and you learn everything you can find out about them. Having a clear idea about their feelings and what matters to them are almost like ammunition that you will use to write successful copy.

When you can make them see and feel that you understand them and are one of them, then you have created trust. How well you perform your research will have a direct bearing on your results, so you have to be serious about it. Spend time getting to know your prospect in every possible way, and then take a peek into their minds to learn more about their wants and needs.

Use real testimonials and feedback within your sales copy. If your product or service has been around for a while, you might already have some impressive testimonials you can use. If you want to improve the conversions of your sales copy, this is one step you can't afford to leave out. In case your product hasn't been around very long, you may have to give it away in exchange for some honest reviews. You can then use this testimonial in your sales letter. People are much more likely to buy a product when they see some independent comments on how good it is. You'll be making them more comfortable about taking a chance on your offer. The ability to produce your own copy is a terrific feeling, and that will give you more control over your business. You will need to do a lot of work, and we know we keep telling you that and only because it is true. However, just keep in mind that in order to gain expertise with copywriting, the keyword is practice. One thing you can do is take sales letters and rewrite them as you would do if it was a real job. Do something for yourself, and that will take you places in your business.
