The Gamble Of Link Buying

By Alexander Smith

Google reacts to link selling with a big frown. Don't wait before your site gets flagged. Early this year, Google sent a notice to Forbes.com web master, saying that it has detected artificial or unnatural link movement on some, if not all, of the web pages on the website. Google specifically asked Forbes.com to find links on their website which may be pointing to other websites for the purpose of manipulating PageRank. Google does not like link buying, and there are disadvantages to engaging this SEO strategy.

Purchasing Links Versus Building Stable Links

As a website owner, you might wonder why link buying is so prevalent. Well, it is true that link buying can skyrocket a site into the rankings in a very brief time. But it is also factual that link buying comes with disadvantages. The first danger is that of Google bringing down the site. The second risk is that of the SEO vendor having domination of the website ranking. It has already happened that a certain client, who ended the contract with the SEO vendor, lost all the links in only one day, after the SEO vendor stripped each and every one the links from the site. The result is a drastic crash down in the rankings. This tactic is not moral at all.

Content-based SEO generates stable links. Human article content writers do the hard work of researching about products and services and creating instructive content about these products and services to be disseminated to many websites and to website owners on the web so they can link back to the site where these posts originated. Good articles generate quality backlinks.

So If A Site Really Likes Your Site, You Don't Have To Pay Money For Links From Them

Some SEO vendors even assure buying a link from an Oprah site, as if Oprah can be bought. If Oprah genuinely likes your website, then she can link to you as is her own discretion. Imagine how high up the rankings you can shoot up if your site has an inlink from Oprah. Permanent content-based SEO is hard to gain but it lingers. In fact, many website owners share the experience of staying high in the rankings even after they have stopped actively doing SEO.
