Green Printing NYC - There Are Many Ways To Go Green

By Brianna Bennett

With over 300 million people in the United States who consume approximately 100 million tons of paper every year, it is more important than ever to conserve and recycle. About half the trees cut down on North American continent goes to making paper. Choosing green printing NYC is the wisest move.

Although, timber is considered a renewable resource because it can be replanted, it is a complex process to get it from the trunk to the page. Much labor and transportation equipment and vehicles are needed to remove the lumber from the forest. Then the mechanized process of making paper involves a lot of chemicals that are damaging to the Earth.

So, you'll want to be mindful of the products that your printing shop uses. Ask about the sources of the materials. Most inks are petroleum based products and are harmful, so find out if they use a safe alternative. There are special printers that trap the excess ink and not allow it to escape into the air which of course, is better for the atmosphere.

It has now become more efficient to preserve out forests rather than to recycle paper. This is because trees use the resources around them to grow. Water sources, the air, the earth and wildlife all contribute to the growth of a forest. So look for unbleached and chlorine free products. The waste products from bleaching paper pulp is toxic.

It's important to know that there are national organizations that are set up to make sure large companies abide by practices that are environmentally safe. These companies act as watch dogs to industries and have created a system whereby, a certificate is visible on the end product indicating that the process and materials used in its creation are 'green'.

Going digital is a green printing NYC option too. Microscopic colored, plastic droplets are digitally encoded onto the paper to create the image. This is a much safer than traditional ink for the air and water. All of these options are readily available so it shouldn't be too difficult to go green.
