Why Sleeping Is Important

By Dean Leslie

The instruction world is infamous for bad habits. In season, we don't eat good enough, work out appropriately enough, or get nearly adequate sleep. Sadly, some coaches wear all of these things as a badge of honor, ensuring to let everyone realize that they were in the office until late hours and in at six the next day.

Inside a short TED talk (a little over four minutes) called "How To Succeed? Get More Sleep", Arianna Huffington talked about 3 good reasons why sleep is important for us.

Three reasons why receiving enough sleep can make us greater industry experts:

1. Helps us begin to see the main issue. Whether you've got a couple of players battling it out for a position, or an opponent who presents a substantial challenge, or simply a sports athlete with poor technique...sometimes resting on it works.

As much as we hate to admit it, sometimes we're too close to the problem and want to consider a step back. I love to talk to my assistant coaches after which all of us come up with a concept that people think works to resolve the issue.

We all take it to the group and come up with the ideal option.

2. Lets out the great ideas within us.

All of our teams and seasons start with an aspiration. We call them ambitions so that they sound a bit more solid than dreams. I've woken up with terrific concepts about offensive and defensive methods, how to deal with team "situations", and even off the beaten track motivation techniques.

3. Shows us that what's great for us can be great for our higher community. This is my plea: trainers really do need to sleep.

We've got to be at our very best to ensure that we can be the greatest for the athletes, for our families, for the departments, and of course, for ourselves. We're not being egotistical, we're not being bad coaches, and we can nonetheless be productive if we get good sleep.

Altering the culture of athletics will require a paradigm shift, for sure. But sleep deprivation isn't method to show we're committed, creative, and living a healthy diet.

Neither if it is some kind of badge of recognition we wear to show what hard workers we are. Our team's good results and satisfaction with our program should be how we show our level of hard work...not whenever we clock in and out.
