Why Scriptwriters Need A Screenplay Analysis

By Selena Martin

The average writer that is trying to break into the television and film business has a certain level of talent that is put into words in hopes that someone in a higher position will be interested in developing the script. Most writers find out the unfortunate way that their script is not yet ready. The trusted way to get a script ready is with a screenplay analysis.

Professional productions require professional teleplays and screenplays that are written to a high industry standard. The ideas that are presented in the finished scripts are not the sole driving force of how decisions are made to start a production. Character development, dialogue, plot points and strong acts work together to make great scripts.

An evaluation process is completed and the quality of each element is written about and presented in a helpful way. The average writer knows how to create an idea, but the follow through to a successful script is the toughest part. Learning how to perfect each section and tell a great story is a big advantage of learning from a professional.

A common pitfall among amateur writers is the story development in the second act. An idea can start out great and maybe even end great, but the storyline develops in act two. A weak second act is the catalyst that plagues most writers and this can be analyzed professionally to help a writer uncover the problems, and helpful solutions are presented how to make changes and what should be done to make writing great.

Getting help from any person that is not a professional can be damaging to the end result of screenplays. A professional knows how to give advice that will stimulate the creative functions of a writer and will instruct how to write correctly and what to avoid. Every addition to the script will be for the benefit of the final output.

The difference between good and great will determine future success. Learning from a professional reader is how an amateur develops the skills to write on a pro level and can develop ideas faster. These pro concepts will help a screenwriter be able to compete sending scripts on spec to LA and New York where the majority of industry productions are made.

The writing of screenplays, television teleplays and scripts for Internet productions can be made better with screenplay analysis. The encouragement and guidance that is given to a writer will be used as the backbone for future success when presenting excellent scripts to industry pros.
